  • A Fresh Twist on Polish Classics for Piano and Violin

Frick Fine Arts Building Auditorium, University of Pittsburgh

The transcriptions by violinists Antoni Cofalic, Arthur Hartmann, and Fritz Kreisler are performed with the improvisational skill of pianist and composer Jarosław Gołembiowski in Chopin’s Prelude in E minor. Concertmaster at New Mexico Philharmonic, violinist Krzysztof Zimowski adds his vision of the original folk inspirations in mazurkas of Chopin and Henryk Wieniawski.  Throughout the concert, the artists engage with the audience informing them of the nuances of the transcriptions of the compositions. This recital is full of new experiences.  Starting with the expressive generosity and refined balance in Chopin, Karol Szymanowski, Henryk Wieniawski, and Felix Borowski from both performers, it concludes with the masterly original Melody Appassionato by Gołembiowski. This concert is not only a tribute to great Polish composers but also homage to magical violin virtuosos.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Polish Cultural Council and the University of Pittsburgh Endowment for Polish Studies.
